April Showers Bring May Flowers!

Whether you're new to cannabis or a seasoned pro, choosing the right flower can be tricky, but we have you covered - here are 3 tips on choosing the right flower for the occasion!

Tip 1: Know your Flowers!

Cannabis is a complicated and beautiful flowering plant with a variety of types and strains. In the plant you'll find two well documented active compounds and clusters of terpenes:

THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol)typically produces the mind altering, psychoactive effects that you would associate to being 'high'.

CBD (Cannabidiol) is the non-psychoactive portion of the plant that’s mostly used in products like oils and edibles.

Terpenes is what gives cannabis its unique aromas, flavours and effects.

There are 3 main types of strains: Sativa, Indica and Hybrid. Each contain different proportions of CBD and THC, allowing them to have different results.

Sativa's typically have high amounts THC and low amounts CBD and yield high volumes of terpenes such as Caryophyllene and limonene which leave you feeling invigorated and uplifted! Sativas are typically consumed during the day. As regular cannabis consumers would dictate, Sativas increase energy levels, encourage socializing, boost moods and productivity, boost focus and prompt feelings of happiness and euphoria.

Indica's typically contain low amounts of THC and high amounts of CBD with dominant terpenes like linalool, myrcene and humulene which are known to be associated with anti-inflammatory, calming/soothing properties. Typically consumed during the evening, Indica loving cannabis consumers report feelings of alleviated stress and relaxed muscles.

Hybrids are Sativa and Indica combined. The effects depend on the traits of both parent strains. You can have a Sativa-dominant hybrid or an Indica-dominant hybrid. They are generally considered as enjoyable and are a great introduction strain for new cannabis users.

The best way to choose the right strain type is to figure out what you'll be using it for, what mood are you in? We're happy to help you find the best flowers for the occasion!

There are no firm rules when it comes to finding the right dose as there are so many factors that can impact cannabis's effects on you. Factors can include, strain potency, your physiology, your experience and tolerance levels and more. Remember, you'll always be more sensitive to the effects of THC during your first dose, so, keep your first dose small and allocate larger doses later. The best approach is to start low and go slow. Track your usage and results to help you figure out which strains you like the most.
